Has no formal training with writing, learned the hard way (that’s why it took seven years to finish Salad Days!).

Played bass in a punk rock band in the late 1980s.

Has never written anything other than the novels available by Layman Books.

Has been a vegetarian since 1984.

Has lived in Austin, Texas since 1993.

Is left-handed.

Has an older brother named Scott, a niece named MaKenzie, and a nephew named Gunnar. Has the coolest parents in the world, Clarence and Roberta.

Drives a 2001 Honda Civic.

Is an avid swimmer, and feels that Deep Eddy in Austin is the best lap pool on the planet (spring-fed, no chlorine).

Loves Mexican food, The Smiths, Descendents, Flogging Molly, Black Flag, Cocteau Twins, Bauhaus, The Cure, Bad Brains, Ella Fitzgerald, Rodgers & Hart, Gershwins, Sade, the Pogues, English Beat, the Marx Bros., and Star Wars.

Fan of Kansas Jayhawks and UT Longhorn basketball.
